Windfarm Ireland PoC

 

Coverage Requirement:     

A multinational energy company headquartered in the UK who runs and maintainsa windfarm in the Donegal area of Ireland. The windfarm produces power theequivalent of approximately 45,000 households which is generated by 38 windturbines.​

Customer Challenge​

In an area that has no public network coverage, the maintenance teams needed away to securely connect to key maintenance applications and be able contactcolleagues for remote support. The customer was also interested in trialing digitalinnovations like smart glasses and drones.​

​

Surecom approach​

Surecom was engaged via one of the Irish mobile operators to plan and design theoutdoor radio (RAN) solution to provide the required coverage. After a structuralintegrity test provided by Surecom highlighted the initial location was unsuitablethe engineering team design a solution that allowed radio equipment to bemounted directly to some of the wind turbines.​

Customer Outcome​

This successful PoC lead to further discussions to replicate the solution across alarge number of Irish windfarms
